In the beginning....

....there was chaos. Welcome to my life! I have two kids, an amazing husband, and Crohn's disease. CD is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease, characterized by inflammation and ulceration along the digestive tract. It's pretty terrible and I've been living with it my entire life. I have had numerous hospitalizations, invasive treatments, expensive and harmful medications, and surgeries in order to have a normal attempt at a life. I was riding a wave of stress, working 40 hours a week and trying to take care of kids, husband and house when my body finally gave up.

I have since quit work, and put all of my focus on getting healthy and staying that way. I have started to garden, in an attempt to reduce stress and eat healthier. It's my ultimate goal to control the Crohn's with diet and exercise. I'm not sure if that is entirely possible, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Meet the family!

Besides gardening (which I'll get to soon), I am also a crafter....I like to quilt, sew and crochet, especially in the cold winter month (Jan) and the oppressively hot summer when it's unbearable outside (May-Sept!).

I have always wanted to garden, but it seemed like too much of a hassle. I live in beautiful Panama City Beach, Florida and I'm lucky enough to have a home less than 1 mile from the beach!! That also means I have nothing but beach sand and dollar weeds in my yard. I was recently introduced to Mel Bartholomew's All New Square Foot Gardening and I was hooked! It almost seemed too good to be true...an amazing garden with few weeds, and no improving the existing soil! I made one 5x5 box (too big, will do 4x4 next time). I am so thrilled with the way things are going that I have plans to build more boxes as soon as $$ will allow.

In the beginning - 5x5 planted March 12

Second box - Watermelon, Cantaloupe & Pumpkin
